I'm not sure why it couldn't just stay, unless it ate up bandwidth or something. I loved rating locations. And I did it according to my own tastes of what is good, bad, etc....cool to me, and all that.

It kind of makes me sad that it's gone. Okay, not kind of, I am sad. *cries*

If locations had ridiculous ratings, so what? The fun was in rating them, not searching for locations that had good ratings. That thought never even entered my mind...

How about a feature where we can only see our own ratings? That way I'd know which places kicked ass, in my opinion, and would either be good to explore or just view the pictures again?

yeah actually when i found out there was a rating star i would vote on all the locations i would check, but pretty often i wouldnt have enough time to look at all the sets of pictures anyways , so i probably voted on only 5-6 locations.

its great to know what happened to those rating though!

The problem was people would blast through locations, click click click, just to get a ratings star, which is a waste of bandwidth and also leads to worthless ratings.

I always tried to give an honest assessment.

I thought that might come up, and the honest answer is, yes, I don't usually spend more than 5-10 seconds on a picture, unless it's interesting. You can't tell though until you open it, because the thumbnails are little (of course, they're thumbnails!).

I did give honest ratings. I think if people could only rate locations for themselves, then that would alleviate that problem since they can't get any sort of star from it.

Why not just get rid of the ratings and LDB stars and start the ratings over? Since you only have to add 5 locations to get the LDB star now, you are probably gonna see a lot more shitty locations entered just so people can get that star. If you got rid of both, you will probably have more people using discretion when adding locations to the DB, as well as when they rate them.

Wouldn't people then rush through the rating process to earn the rating-star and the cycle would repeat itself?

Deliberate up/downvoting was commonplace.

You misread. I mean eliminate the stars completely. Then the incentive to rush through is gone, and there may be more honest ratings.

Just suggestions. Either way I don't care, IMO it would be better if the LDB was just killed altogether:

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your input. The decision was made months ago and the feature has been gone for a while now. It's not coming back.

The LDB is a wonderful tool and contains over 6000 locations with close to 300,000 photos. It is the most extensive database of it's kind. It most certainly will not be removed.

Since this issue was never really open for discussion in the first place, I will now lock this thread.

Thanks,
