The great Galena campout tradition (since 2007) continues in 2025! Following the success of the past couple years, the three-day weekend of Indigenous Peoples Day (Columbus Day) will again be appropriated for our inappropriate use. Although the Clocktoberfest tradition began as a way to bring midwestern urban explorers together, the event is open and welcoming to all. Even if you are new to the community, you are welcome and encouraged to come meet new friends! While spelunking and exploration is encouraged, Clocktoberfest should be an opportunity to relax. It’s a holiday after all! Kicking up your feet around the bonfire all weekend and relaxing with friends is just as acceptable and encouraged as going hard with rappelling into deep caves. As always, we will be camping on a beautiful hilltop right outside historic Galena, Illinois. There are plenty of sights to see and activities to do in the surrounding area. Be sure to pack appropriately for the types of activities you plan to do. Camping equipment is a necessity. Check the weather ahead of time and be sure to have clothing for the wide-range of temperatures common in mid-autumn. If you plan to go in caves, be sure to pack your flashlights, cave boots, and maybe even a kayak or inflatable raft if you plan to explore “Floaty Boaty”. A spare pair of dry shoes and socks is always a good idea. We hope to see you!
