A big churn (as we saw outside in the back,in the old picture).....used to a: soak the skin with different products and/or b: rinse and rinse the lime off the skin.Lime (chaux)was often used to help the skin loosen the pores so the hairs are easily pulled out by the round knife (on the round workhorse)
