I started Urbexing in 2006 in Australia where I did a few drains, but it was only really when I returned to the UK that I became so hooked. For me the exploration of the urban environment, stripped of its human presence and left to be reclaimed by nature - holds a real fascination.

I enjoy the experience of interacting with the buildings and other man made structures in an alternative way, by both climbing up them or getting inside the bowles of the place. The ability to apply skills I have learnt in the outdoors, in an urban environment, offers a real adventurous approach.

There are so many iconic structures to celebrate. Cooling Towers and chimneys and pylons - I see these things and wonder - what is it like up there, is there a different perspective to be had? We only normally get to experience places like this ground up.

As well as this there is my camera. The camera and photography is a means in which to show others how you visually interpret the world. Over the last year I have really learnt to appreciate the lines and geometry in many of the urban environments. I aim to produce images that can both express the soul of the site, in its afterlife and express my interpretation of what I saw, as well as try to capture the mood of the explore and my and my fellow explorers interaction with the place. I always enjoy looking at other people’s photographs especially of places I have visited as they always offer a unique viewpoint.

I would in no way discourage others from exploring their urban landscape. But I would urge anyone doing so to ensure that they take the appropriate precautions, be wary of buildings in which drug addicts reside and of the dangers of rotting floors and rooftops. Always ensure that you have adequate clothing and if climbing anything or going sub urban, that you have the appropriate equipment to do so safely. Life has too many rules, be a risk taker and work within your skill level, most of all have fun. I do!
