UA City World MapHercks Pillars
Rating:Updated 12th January 2001

Herk's Pillars is a great drain, very spectacular, very dramatic, very dark. It has a series of huge waterfalls in it, and a very dramatic downstream entrance.

This big canal greeted me when I first reached Hercs Pillars. I knew it was around here somewhere.

The entrance looked a little small for this fabled drain.

Just inside the entrance the sign says it gets good. The pipe I am standing on handles most of the water for the drain during dryer times.

The drain features some pretty hairy falls! This is the first one I went down. Please don't try this yourself!

Looking back up the first waterfall.

This clay pipe carries water down the drain. It makes a huge roar as water pours over the waterfalls.

Looking over the lowest waterfall. It is a big drop! The ladder funs down the center of the waterfall.

The waterfall from the base. It is huge! The ladder runs directly down the center of the falls.

The passage below the falls leans into the curves. Note the water on the right side of the drain and the lechate pipe on the ceiling.

The 'Boat Hull' A small side tunnel of the drain system.

Exit from the drain. The main water stream was covered in very slippery slime.

The Pillars in all their glory! I can't even guess what they were thinking when this thing was designed.

A maze of pillars

Looking like relics from another civilisation.

The base of the pillars

The downstream section of the drain forms quite a nice small natural creek.

There seems to be some sort of small work area near the drain entrance

Art image? Well a 747 flew right over the drain. The whole of UA City seems to be under the flight path of these jets.

The drain entrance as seen from a side road.
