This drain is close to Tenth, Donaldson Creek and the Deathstar. It is on the way to Holy Foot

Despite the name this is a reasonably attractive drain, set as it is in a park near an old oak tree. It's best just to explore a short bit of it up to the old red brick section, that's where the action is.

Drain Report

1 The Entrance. The entrance to the drain is located in quite a nice area, right by the side of some tennis courts in a park. The tennis courts are off on the left as you approach the drain from the north west. The way down into the drain is it's east side where a conveniently placed rock serves as a stepping stone down the embankment.

The drain is a 1.5 meter rectangular concrete, with an entrance quite similar to FocknBever. This heads in under the street, curving to the left. It is only a short way in that you come to the drain's first feature. The grille, visible from above as an unusual feature in one of the new houses along the street, is quite large, with stout bars. A short way past here the tunnel rises to become a RCP, just barely high enough to stand in.

2. Junction and more grilles. A short way along the pipe you come to a junction, with enough space to easily stand up. A small RCP leads off left while another short section of tunnel on the right ends abruptly. From here the tunnel gets a slight bit higher, continuing uphill in a series of short slides. You soon come to another large grill in the tunnel roof. From this grille you can clearly spot a number of trees, shrubs and a telephone pole. It would appear that the grille is hidden in shrubbery on the north side of a main road.

A short way further along the drain you come to another grille in the roof of the drain, this one makes a very good photo shot. From here the tunnel turns to the right and heads roughly north east. It soon becomes an old RBT. It's not very exciting so you may want to turn back. Still it's worth going all the way to the end of any tunnel eh?

The number of large grilles in this short section of tunnel earns it a good rating rather than just average. They make an otherwise average and plain tunnel into something worth taking a look at. Though short, Coffin has a lot to offer in a short distance and is worth visiting if in the area, doing Holy Foot or Donaldson Creek perhaps.

Expo report.

Recently Emor and I visited this drain and came across a number of young guys sitting around and well, smoking something. (This site is rated PG so I'm not saying what they were doing ).

Anyway I wandered in with Emor and we said good day before venturing up the tunnel. The teenagers advised us one of their number was further up the drain skating. We wandered up and found a skateboard sitting in the middle of the drain with the owner nowhere to be seen. I loudly ranted off about the joy of finding a free skateboard in the drain and the owner turned up from the left side tunnel.

Emor and I wandered up to the two grilles and peeked out. We then wandered up as far as the red brick before turning back. Back at the entrance the youths were yapping away. When I asked if they wanted their picture taken and if they wanted to be on the Internet there was a resounding 'Yeah'. I took a shot with the camera but unfortunately the chemist later lost the entire reel. I ended up with some one's barbecue pictures. It's been over a week now and I'm loosing hope to get the pics back.

Well guys, sorry there's no pic here but thanks anyway for the tip on the fish and chip shop and for the company.

We later met these guys at Glass Creek where they gave us an excellent guided tour of that drain.
