The Urban Adventure Site

1st December 2002

Buildings are fun things to explore. I mostly explore ones which are clearly abandoned.

Abandoned buildings and industrial estates: Better sites towards top of page

The Armour. This abandoned building in Saint Louis was one of the best I have seen. Lots of big chunky material and overgrown areas.
Illinois State funny farm. A large abandoned mental hospital near Chicago. This site had dozens of abandoned buildings in various states of disrepair. Some were almost ruins while others were being renovated for reuse. This was also one of the best sites I had ever seen.
The brilliant Fisher Body Works in Detroit Michigan. This place had six levels with the best kept for last. A huge old abandoned car manufacturing plant compleate with it's own ghost train ride.
German borderlands factory. A massive abandoned factory right on the German border. This place was huge, and in various states of decay. It included two indoor gardens.
The Blues Brothers Mall. The massive mall in Harvey Illinois USA where the mall car chase scene was shot. Now a former shadow of itself.
Michigan Central Station in Detroit. While I didn't get to explore the inside of this it was well worth the visit just to see the outside. One of the most impressive looking abandoned buildings I have ever seen.
Brick works 1 A massive and extensive brick works estate. By far the best building site I have explored except maybe for the now demolished Salmon Street Estate. Many photos, some very funny. Displayed in 5 sections due to its' size.
The massive Industrial Giant. This huge complex has been in the process of demolition. It is sad that I did not explore it till the demolition work was underway. Now gone, these images were taken in the last days of the building. I snuck in one week end when the building was still being guarded and workmen were roaming about. The 200 images I took in an hour and a half barely do the place justice. In 9 sections due to its' size.
Mc Vay Memorial College This closed down inner city college had hall upon hall of abandoned rooms. Four levels of exciting places to discover. In a semi trashed state, the place was well worth exploring. One of the larger abandoned buildings to explore in UA City. With a scary history.
The Slaughter House. Another big abandoned industrial building. This three story building was a bit scary to explore. With the dodgy staircase from hell, holes in the floor and a spooky history it wasn't the sort of place you would want to stay in at night. Well north of UA City this place was in the middle of nowhere. It took a 2 day drive to get there.
Big Brick. This brick works was also abandoned. Lots of big ass chunky machinery still left around. Many nice images.
The Hawthorne Shopping Mall in Los Angales is the largest abandoned shopping mall in the world. Used as a location in the movie Minority Report. With images taken at night it is impossible to get a true idea of the scale of the place.
Great Lakes Carbon in Saint Louis was another of the large and impressive abandoned complexes that city has to offer. My pictures do not really do it justice.
Ruins of the Gary High Schools Memorial Audatorioum and Palace Theater in Gary Indiana
New Brick. This is a new but kind of small brick works I found just recently that was worth exploring. Only one building, but it's action packed.
City Power If you like big ass chunky abandoned buildings with lots of machinery, much of it still live, then this is the place for you. The old abandoned City Power complex is a massive abandoned industrial building that takes up almost a whole city block. Lots of cool things that go buzz. Very action packed. Displayed in 2 main sections due to size.
The Rail Depot This massive old abandoned rail depot was once the freight hub of UA City. With one main buildings and a couple of abandoned offices, this place was great to explore. Lots of abandoned computer equipment left behind.
The Pipeworks The Pipeworks was a beautiful place for Urban Explorers to explore. This abandoned industrial complex had dozens of abandoned buildings to seek out. This was a great place for an Urban Exploration. It had some great cement sifting towers too. Sadly scheduled for demolition, these images are all that remains of the place.
The abandoned training center These images, taken a while back now were of another abandoned building that has now been demolished. My mates and I managed to explore this place quite extensively before it was demolished.
Geelong Power Station. A place I have explored several times. Some images from both 1998 and 2002. Showing the same building four years apart. This place was like a massive empty hall, the machinary long gone. And that infamous roof!
The abandoned school Once a hive of learning, now a vandalized ruin. This place brought back many memories of my school days. Two stories of abandoned and gutted class rooms.
Salmon Street I loved this place. This was the biggest abandoned industrial complex I have ever explored. It was a great place to roam around. There were dozens of buildings, lots of furniture and equipment left and a homeless guy. I found a working ISDN modem there and hundreds of computer floppy disks. Sadly the place was demolished, and I have just a few photos of it.
The Silos The old silos overlook the city, offering brilliant views. A good place to explore, but once again, scheduled for demolition.
The Underground Power Station This still active power station was a long drive to reach, but well worth exploring.
The Shed. An old abandoned sheering shed way out in the bush has been taken over by some 'little people'
Brick works 2 A trio of pictures of an inner city abandoned brick works. I'm sure I took more pictures of this, but I can't find them.
Feral Cock A great old abandoned munitions depot. Sadly I have just 2 images of it.

Other

Pound Bend tunnel

The only image I have of UA City's old Southern power station.
For an abandoned power station, it had a lot of security guards.
