OPEX86 - Vancouver

Opex86 in Vancouver was a great success. About 20-25 explorers turned up and had a great time. For me it was a great chance to meet some new explorers and to get back in contact with Jester and Pixie whom I met at OPEX 94.

Setting up the barbecue. There was another group set up near us who we talked to a bit. There were a few funny moments as they asked what OPEX was about and I explained it was all about Office Products Expo. I nattered on about some cool office products and Nobody asked them a bit about their mining activities. The Barbecue that Nobody designed is in the foreground.

.

There was plenty to eat and drink.

POP.

The information packs and beach balls. The information packs were VERY well done. They came with maps of the city of Vancouver, sheduals of places we were going to see, other information and a kick ass coaster that Nobody made.

Nobody and Hypno-Toad during the set up. The food was great. Barbecued Chicken and baked corn on the cob! Brilliant.

Getting ready. In the background is the stage for the band that was booked for pre OPEX 86 entertainment.

Now to test if it is well done. :)

Cold drinks.

Cooking begins.

Urban Explorers start to arrive.

Nobody gathers more food and takes a break from cooking.

Food, sauces, and drinks. Yum. The organisers really put on a hell of nice a spread.

I added a little Aussie flavor.

The barbecue is on in earnest. By this point the chicken had all been barbecued. Nobody's cooking and his barbecue was great.

After barbecue events included draining. This is the 4th drain in Canada that I had been in.

Entering the drain. The guy on the right was from Seattle. The big torch in his pocket later went missing or was lost which must have sucked. This might be the last photo of it.

An out of focus shot that ended up coming out kind of cool.

The Whistler Mountaineer whistles by.

Buntzen lake store. They had great ice cream there.

We head off down the path to Buntzen Lake.

This was a cool tunnel to another lake. I would have liked to say we explored it, but it was not our target for the day.

Deuterium strips off in the heat. In all OPEX 86 had some brilliant weather.

Buntzen Lake power station.

Inside the station.

The lower levels. There seemed to be no actual generators in this station.

Apparently before the road was built, there was a railway out to the station.

I believe that is Prozak on the same door that Jester later fractured his leg on.

This light bulb was left along side a trail. It was completely intact.
