World Trip 2004 - Armour

No stop in St Louis could be considered complete without the Armour building.

Approaching the Armour building. Still active power poles on the edge of it.

Making an approach to the North side of the building.

Parts of the building are tree and vine covered. It was so wet and luxurious here. So much different from the dry and yellow trees back home in Australia.

Not the world's best shot. This appeared to be a completely overgrown loading bay of some sort.

Where once stood machinery, now stands a forest.

The massive standing engine

That thing is huge

This is what really attracts me to the Armour site. The machinery

The lower level equipment that I photographed so well last time I was here in 2002.

Instruction manuals among the debris on the ground.

Roof level forest.

These were quite substantial trees with root systems that went right through the floor.

Literally the roof of this building is covered in trees.

Looking down into the main building.

The roof level forest again.

They could be greenhouses. But they are on a 40 metre high roof.

Jungle covered gap between the two main buildings.

That building is also covered in vines and trees.

Big holes in the floor. It pays to be very wary and careful where you step. From habit, one walks where one can see the floor is supported by a beam underneath.

Remains of another building near by.

This is probably the best image of the roof area that I have.

More trees growing on the roof.

Looking towards the former meat works holding yards.

Down below another small building is covered in trees. Imagine trying to spot that from the air. I expect that's why ancient cities in the jungle are so hard to spot.

A close up of one of the trees growing on the roof.

It's a virtual forest up here.

The concrete erodes away eventually.

You can tell this building used to have more bits hanging off the side.

This stair case used to go some place once

Employees must take all clothing out of lockers when laid off. I gather that was a regular event if they needed a sign.

These junction boxes were in okay condition inside.

It looks like a console from a time machine.
