Paris Catacombs

I suppose by now many people have heard legends of people wandering around the catacombs, getting lost and dying. This is mainly due to a puerile American television show called Fear. They set up some video of this nutter wandering around the catacombs with a video camera, getting lost and panicking. He then runs around and the last thing we see is him running off into the distance as he drops his camera. That is pure bullshit.

But at least one person has died in the Paris Catacombs. Philbert Asperit was once the keeper of the keys to the Catacombs in the church of Val de Grace. One day he wandered off into the Catacombs and never came back. More than a hundred years later his body was found in this small room, not much more than 500 metres from where he entered the Catacombs,though about 700 metres by tunnels. It is believed he had broken his leg in the tunnels and had been unable to crawl to the exit. His body was buried in the room he was found in, and a tombstone placed above it. My photo is quite a bad one, the video is better.
