Michigan Central Station

Michigan Central Station, at night.

The Excruciatingly Short MCS Expediton.
June 2nd, 2001

You can find Michigan Central Station here.

Our trip into Michigan Central Station (MCS) was brief, but exciting nonetheless. The only access we could find was underneath an old loading bay door, which Jesus had to hold up as each of us slid underneath it. Once we were all in we proceeded to make our way through an old baggage-handling area and then to the main building. Once we had made it to the main building we took a walk around, being careful not to shine our photon blasting lights through the windows -- can't have people seeing light from an abandoned building, no Sir. We then made our way around the first floor, taking in all the wonders of the architecture et al. After we had taken some photographs we decided to go up to the next floor, everyone was filled with excitement of what the next doorway would reveal to us. One word of warning, from none other than NFF, was "do not touch anything hanging from the roof, it could be holding the entire ceiling in that area up." So, we were all careful, what good infiltrators we are, and made our way up to the second floor. We didn't have much time to poke around that floor so we decided to move on. Our leader, if you will, NFF, warned us that there was a corpse on the third floor and not to be shocked by this, and to watch our step etc... O_o
When we started to go up the stairs we heard a noise, oh that special and scary noise of another human being. NFF stopped us all and told us to be quiet which most of us -- quite willingly -- were able to do. Whoever the other person was seemed to be as scared of us as we were of them. At this point we made the decision that we should come back in the day, rather than the terrifying night or something, and made our way back out. That was our short trip to Michigan Central Station.
Although we weren't there long, what we saw was impressive. The architecture was amazing to say the least - I do fjeer. Also, we hope to go back soon before something bad happens to the building.
We did manage to make a return trip to MCS, almost a year later, but it was cut short again, much to our chagrin. We want nothing more than to see more of the place and come back with a decent set of photos to give some idea of what it's actually like inside, but it'll have to wait.
That second trip is what most of the (sadly brief) MCS photo gallery came from.
