Two bridges

Like every structure that was once widely used , but is no longer needed these two bridges
housed it's share of murky ghosts and memorable stories....Stories that have been blown away by winds of time and never be known to anyone. Stories of being late for school and being late for work. Stories of the first kiss or the first fight. Stories of lost loves and dashed hopes... Does a small inner city bridge dreams of one day becoming a Golden Gate bridge or a Brooklin bridge?
These two sites carried a great deal of baggage. Anyone could see that.
One was downtown in the middle of a rundown, industrial neighborhood that has seen it's share of bad times. The other was on the outskirts of the city surrounded by wast emptiness and busy highways.
One was made of of steel and the other was made of stone. One looked like it was built to support trains and the other looked like it's purpose was a casual Sunday morning drive. One fell in disrepair and the other looked almost as good as the day it was open for business....
Structures are like people....They all fall apart, but in different ways.
Some whither in weeks, while others hang on for years, giving impression of well-being...
These two bridges were like that. One was dead and gone and the other was dying for years, desperately hanging on to the image of it's former self when it was new and life was good. They both had one thing in common. They were still here after years of service and they had something to say. With every step I lerned more and more...About the weather, about construction, about the people that walked these bridges and about the sky. You just had to stop, be quiet and listen. There was much to learn and see. Even as I was leaving I could still hear wind moving through the rusted beams, whistling some forgotten melody from the distant past.

So when you enter a ghost land of an old building, abandoned factory or a dark, dusty hospital and you hear the beating of your heart, don't panic....It's just building talking to you...Whispering it's secrets in your ear...Sharing it's stories. All it wants to do is to remind you that it was created for a purpose...That it was here....That it wants to be remembered.....and after all, that's really all that we are left with.... Our memories
