The Night of Fear

We have been to Honey horn several times and always found it fascinating. You never get board there because there are so many buildings and at the time people were going in and out with regularity. At the time we also wanted to do some training and these abandoned buildings gave us a great chance to work on recon and room clearing.

Are plan was simple. Come in park the car down a old path and make are way to the main building circling back to the other houses and barns. We went to the main building cautiously checking for anyone however we saw no signs of life. Breaking up into two groups of 1 and 2 we moved around the building checking for anything unusual as we had gotten accustomed to the area. As I moved along I looked up and saw a green digital clock through the window that I had never seen before. I noted the time as 10pm however my watch said 2123. Not being near a daylight savings I wondered how long it had been since someone had been there. We had never seen this clock before and I had passed that particular window several times. I called my buddies and told them what I had found and we meet back near the front. At the time I didn’t admit it but I felt very strange as if someone were watching me. Dismissing this as paranoia from the clock which neither of my other friends saw we moved on.

Trav at the time was taking lead as he needed some practice while my best friend did rear guard. We then moved to the next building and stayed together as we went around. I had this odd feeling slowly growing in me as we proceeded and kept telling myself that it was complete lunacy to be spooked. I felt like I was 8 again walking in a dark building I had never been in. As this grew I became more and more aware of my surroundings seeing everything from the bats in the sky to the mice running from us. Generally all of this stuff gets tuned out but that night it didn’t.

We finally had gotten to the large barn that is marked car shed on the map. We did a quick look around and as Trav moved us out he became apprehensive and acted as if didn’t know what he was doing. I stopped our group and moved toward the marsh in a area of trees for protecting. I turned to my best friend and said, "I feel something really weird and I want to know if I am being a paranoid fuck. Does anyone else feel odd?" My best friend immediately agreed with me which was suppressing as he is about 200 pounds of pure powerhouse energy that never gets spooked. Even Trav said he didn’t feel right. I asked my best friend if he felt something weird on his neck. He said yes and pointed to the very back of his neck on the spine, the exact same spot where I had begun to feel heat and pressure as we had checked out the Car shed. I asked them if they wanted to leave and everyone quickly said yes. Which is almost unheard of. We have a rule if one person feels weird we pull out because someone with good senses may sense cops etc without knowing outside stimuli has caused this. Well generally its never unanimous and especially not with such haste and no discussion.

Taking the lead I headed out toward the edge of the field using a building and some trees as cover. At this point I felt in large danger for my life. To this day including my 4 months in Baghdad I have never felt such a odd and terrifying fear in my life. This is to include nearly drowning three times, being robbed at gun point and having mortars land nearby. The closest I have ever felt like this was a ground attack one night in Baghdad. As I moved out I almost had a day dream feel of something after me. As I moved every time I blinked I felt as if I was looking through my body out the back of my neck at a translucent red blob with tentacles coming toward me at a jogging pace. Later I asked my best friend if he felt something weird and he recounted nearly the same thing. He said he felt like some red thing was reaching out for us. At the time this made us move very fast finally getting into my car. I don’t think I ever have gotten into a car and sped out so fast in my life.

We found out later that someone had been out there a week before and shot and stabbed a few dear to death decapitating there bodies. Now I don’t believe in ghosts but that experience will never let me rule out there existence. My best friend and I for several weeks before had been training are senses to hear and see and feel more then normal. It was some military special forces techniques used to help bring your senses to the fullest. Whatever caused all three of us to freak out in a highly controlled and violent manner I will probably never know. We went back several days later and didn’t experience anything however to this day I still get the creeps recounting that night. I still wonder if someone had passed the sights of there scope over my head that night as he debated weather to shoot us or not.
