Posted by coolied 4/12/2008 12:09 AM | remove   Yup.... the entire point of a theater organ is to provide a sort of a 'one-man orchestra'; originally to accompany silent films and musical plays............ theater organs commonly had interesting sound effects operated by foot-operated pushbuttons located behind the bass note pedals and to the left of the expression pedals (which adjust the shutters on the organ chambers, a 'volume control' if you will)...... Some of these sound effects included klaxons, bells, train whistles, and even a 'surf' sound generator..... some had clopping noises for horse hoof noises, and some theater organs even hooked up to a pneumatically actuated grand piano.........
