I am surprised that people live so close to the plant. there has to be asbestos and other toxic waste in the area.

  What plant?

Plant is another name for the building/grandstand. I was speaking in technical terms, my apologies.

In what world is that a technical term for any non-industrial or manufacturing facility?
Posted by Emperor Wang 7/15/2005 1:39 AM | remove
I've heard 'plant' used in reference to distributed equipment out in the field. At a cable TV outfit I once worked at, the 'plant' was all the cable, splitters, amplifiers, power supplies and whatnot. Not really an industrial nor manufacturing related usage of the word. Also, dictionary.com (usage #3) would seem to support jef's interpretation of the word as meaning a complex of buildings. So, in conclusion... maybe you could relax that sphincter of yours a bit, Lucas? :-)

Lucas, I have been in the horse business for a very long time. I could have said, plant, racetrack, raceway, grandstand. Could have called it the backstretch being the trailer park is where the barns, training track, paddock, raceoffices, grooms quarters, maintinence yard and mechanics were. HMMM sounding more and more like a plant now isn't it.

Well, no, it doesn't. But one correct answer would have been "the horse abuse world".

Lucas, what an educated and articulate response, your parents must be very proud of you!

Come now, a lame non sequitur? Surely you can do better than that.

Those windows were blown out in a Charlie Sheen movie believe it or not.
