Must have been an impromptu machinegun nest there.

And greywolf45, those casings would be too weatherworn for reloading.
Posted by Axle 8/7/2005 1:29 AM | remove
that's some serious cannon casing there.

Wow. I look at most UE pics and think "how cool that is!" This is just sobering. Amazing pictures, though.
Posted by Axle 10/14/2005 1:34 PM | remove
sobering is the right word to discribe this

I'd guess this is where they shelled the airport and Camp Kanombe from. I'd always read they had heavy weapons within the CND, but never thought it'd be quite that heavy!

looks like the ground at the shooting range after a fun day :-D
Posted by Blackbird 10/9/2007 11:14 PM | remove
Something tells me this wasn't a fun day.

they look to be 40mm rounds to me they look a little big for a 20mm
Posted by Blackbird 12/31/2007 8:20 PM | remove
Jesus. What sort of gun fires 40mm, that's the same size as the grenade for an M203.
Posted by seany 1/5/2008 11:15 PM | remove
  mk19 automatic grenade launcher :-p
Posted by Blackbird 1/6/2008 2:10 AM | remove
Do they have that sort of kit in Rawanda?

I always thought they relied on 7.62, 30mm, and other Russian made stuff in Africa.
Posted by seany 1/7/2008 11:43 PM | remove
they do. this wasn't nearly that big (40mm) it was certainly bigger than 7.62, but 30mm sounds too large.
Posted by Blackbird 1/8/2008 9:03 PM | remove
Perhaps 20mm, I know the Russians use 20mm or 30mm (but now that I think about it, the Americans use 30mm so it has to be 20mm).
Posted by jacunda 7/1/2009 7:34 PM | remove
They look like .50 cal casings, but it's hard to tell for sure without a size reference in the pic
Posted by pkrearden 4/14/2010 9:26 AM | remove
looks like 14.5mm soviet to me, then again, with nothing to provide size reference, those rounds could be 12.7mm soviet, 12.7 BMG, or 105mm gun rounds. hard to tell.

If Greywolf actually reloaded ammunition, he'd know they were of no use.
Posted by RiddimRyder 11/23/2010 10:38 PM | remove
  Awesome shot!
Posted by Frogster 2/3/2012 5:55 AM | remove
Just think... When these rounds where fired, they more then likely ended up killing people. Unarmed people, because alot of the violence was genocide. Ethnic cleansing. Wagnastv, you are not looking at a picture of rounds used during a fun shoot at the local range. You are looking at spent rounds that where more then likely used to mow down unarmed skinny black children, simply because they where Tutsis.
