A-10... mostly nobody calls em 'thunderbolt' anymore... usually just call it the "Hawg" because it's so damn ugly... but lethal!
We have an A-10 on static display at my base, along with about 11 other various airplanes. Fun stuff.

That's what the warthog was bulit for, low level bombing. Slow compared to a fighter jet but just as lethal with it's carrying capacity, and if i remember correctly they have 50mm machine guns?? If im wrong please correct me.

The A-10 is equipped with two General Electric turbofan engines, has a top speed of about 430mph and is armed with a 30mm gatling gun in the nose firing depleted uranium rounds. :o)

They made the cannon first and then built the plane around it. Those 30mm DU shells will split a tank in half in about .09 seconds. It also fires so fast that you don't hear the typical rata-tat-tat, but it makes more of a "burp" sound.

That cannon fires so rapidly, it slows the plane's air speed by a few knots.

Actually, there is a trim compensator in the aircrafts' avionic that will trim the nose down when the cannon fires. The cannon has that much ass! The pilot sits in an armored titanium alloy 'bathtub', the aircraft can have large pieces of it shot off and still come home... Thunderbolt II was an apt name if you know anything about aircraft of World War II vintage.
