A better perspective as to why the dam is designed in the way it is.

Please let me know what you find out. The state of abandonment/repair is really strange - my Mom (who works for the county) swears it was closed for security, but then why the construction?? Plus, there is so much more there than meets the eye, behind locked hatches, inside the dam, underground. Keep us posted!!

I've read about people accessing the pipes in a stupid UE book whose name I've worked hard to forget. I think at the dam itself, access would be tough. Although, if you can figure otu the code for the keypad, I imagine access would be simple... I'm working on the code...

Well, your buddy is 50% right anyway...of course, Brooklyn is a whooole other story. I've got to respect the die-hards though - at least the Expos have (had??) a cool stadium.

Rumor has it that the Yankees are getting a new stadium next door to their old one - just what the Yanks need to continue their money-making monopoly they have of pro ball.

i can't stomach the yankees. isn't there an aqueduct that goes with this damn?

The only reason that I don't totally oppose a new stadium is becasue Yankee stadium is the only thing that keeps the Bronx from reverting back to one of the most dangerous cities - they bring a lot of money to the area. If I'm not mistaken though, I think the Yanks are building it themselves, but I could be wrong. Yes Samurai - there is an acqueduct that goes with this dam - if you look at the picture above, the area to the right is where it begins. On top of the dam there is all sorts of access ways, theoretically into the acqueduct.

Awesome location! And nice story and pics too! If you look at this [and several other places in the area] with Google Earth, they've blurred the dam and the immediate area. I assume for security reasons. But you can see it just fine on Terraserver...
