  whew, you were taking chance there. You should check the time tables of the dam. If you did not already do that.

  a local whitewater guy told me that they never open the dam from 11am-4pm because of rafters on the Kananaskis. he also told me that any time they open it there is a 5 minute siren warning.

  A siren blast 5 min before changing the levels is customary pretty much anywhere in Canada. However that doesn't mean it will always happen.
