Description
I could attempt to translate this sign found along the bike path, but I'm sure someone else can do it much better. So I won't.

Damn, I hate on the fly translations.... but here goes:

This ancient hydroelectric factory is named "Petit Pouvoir" - "Small Capacity" by the locals.

It is one of the rare historically classified buildings in our region. It was constructed at the turn of the century to fully exploit the innovation provided by the new canal construction "Soulanges": Whose locks would be powered by electricity and path illuminated by lights. We therefore built a hydroelectric dam to fully take advantage of the altitude difference between the canal and the river. Since the dam is constructed to meet the most modern standards, we also attached a building styled as a middle aged castle, to contain the turbines and other mechanisms; as well as a warehouse and lodgings for the foreman.

This monument was inaugurated in 1899 and the canal remained in service until the St-Laurence seaway was opened in 1956. The castle building now remains as a private residence.
