Those boots look like WW2 issue, almost thinking tankers boots but those usually had buckles. Yes, definitely military.

Which is interesting that you mention, because I had not yet gotten to post that he was, in fact, a WW2 veteran. Unfortunately, i don't know anything more about his service as of today.
I speculated that he may have been involved in the signal corps if he was an electronics/radio hobbyist way back when. Of course as I said, as of today that is speculation.

Actually they look a little like motorcycle boots or maybe even for horse riding. I would think they are more likely for riding horses since you mentioned he had one.

Yes, I agree with Rev now, and after considering his age at the time of his death, WW2 service seems unlikely although he was a veteran of somesort. Possibly Korea, which would make more sense chronologically.

Riding, if you look at the pictures there is a lot of repetitive horse theming.

I stick by my fantasy that they are WW2 tankers boots! Big money on ebay for those knee high boots. You're right though they are riding boots.

Have you considered that it might be part of his Hungarian folk dancing outfit? :)
Although they DO remind me a little bit of my old Soviet jackboots...all kidding aside, they're probably riding boots. Quite expensive, too.

And to think, it never occured to this guy that people would be looking at photos of his house on the internet and making comments about his life.
