Looking into the file cabinet, I stuck my camera IN the drawer, and took shots both up and down, looking for hidden objects (as drawers commonly have items hidden behind them). Indeed, I found this manilla envelope which contained tax return information. The filing cabinets contained troves of paystubs, returned checks, and bills. He worked for the American Broadcasting Company as a technician of some sort, and also did freelance work on the side, as evidenced by paystubs and contracts. One contract detailed the sale of a device called a "Swobulator", a sound effects machine, which he sold for a whopping US$36,000, in 1960's money.

I wouldn't be surprised if this guy didn't have a huge supply of cash hidden somewhere in the house. When my grandpa (about the same age) died we found over 20K buried in the ground of his crawlspace. Make sure you really go over the house before it is demoed.

Someone was telling me a story of an older person (I don't remember which gender) who went slightly senile and began to file away check stubs and cash inside his/her books. When s/he eventually passed away, the task was left to the person telling the story to go through EVERY SINGLE BOOK in the house, practically page by page, to see if there was any cash inside, or just old check stubs, or nothing at all. Talk about mind-numbing.

We found about 6K hidden in an old cedar chest of my grandma's which contained old keepsakes like baby cloths and photos. We also found several suitcases full of photos hidden in the old barn.
