Description
An old phone for an old guy... Note that the cord detangler has kept the baby blue cord very well preserved. Post it notes await thoughts which will never be put down.

It's no Merlin, but a decent multi line phone for a private residence.

Actually in a later photo of the attic you'll see that it's actually a single line phone, those are just memory dials.

My girlfriend's dad is on speed dial.

Sorry to post twice in a row, but just as an interesting side note, the big red sticker on the handset provides the emergency services number which was not yet 911, but rather a local phone number.

What is the small round clock looking thingy ? Call timer ?

Good call on that, it's a Micronta stop-timer that's been adhered to the wall, presumably to keep track of the length of phone calls as you said.

You get the picture of a once very technical and precise mind behind all this, eh ?

Shame it lapsed.... :-(

Do the notes and the dates on the notes indicate the wellness of the man in any given period? Example; If I'm depressed, I still manage to put on a good show for the public; does it indicate that he was making / recieving phone calls?

In some respects, yes, and in others, no. Take the emergency number sticker for example; 911 was everywhere at least a few years ago. Then we can also see stickers for 10297 and 10-N-J-B. These codes, called carrier access codes, changed to 10-10-297 and 10-10-N-J-B. You may remember commercials from these 10-10 companies (some still are around today). It would seem like he hadn't used the phone in quite some time.

I'm surprised that he had that many people on speed dial, considering that (apparently) nobody ever came to visit him. It's at least eight, and possibly sixteen, numbers!

INA, how fortunate this man was that he had a few people he could count on.
