this one is the border drive in, remember drive ins were illegal in quebec until the 60s, catholic church. Now the province was ringed by drive ins, the border in ontario, the transborder in champlain (the marquee is still standing for the trans border industrial park, ther was the super 87 in plattsburg (county jail now) starliter (housing developpment across from a&p) and finally of the ones i know, st albans vermont. the first quebec drive in, that spelled the end of this one is the st mathieu its now a warehouse behind bar 38 (peeler) its screen was taken down a few years ago. right near montreal there are about 12 screens still active in 4 or 5 drive ins

Thats quite the interesing tidbit! Yes this in no more than 10 minutes from the Canada/Qubec Border. Just joking...my Canada includes Montreal!
It's a totally different way to watch/enjoy/experience a movie!!!

it explains why drive ins (although a fair number have closed in quebec) are still very busy. The chateauguay drive in with its 3 screens does amazingly well considering its falling down. the ste eustache drive in with its 5 screens is a great place, gorgeous marquee/entry plaza. And unlike the flea market conversions in the states this one shows movies at night fleas during the day!

We had the "Stardust" or "Skyline" (can't remember the name of the place, but it's one of those.) close in 1984-85. The Essex Theatre in Port Henry NY closed in 1981-82 (the last movie that ran there was 'The Road Warrior')... Still, there is a drive in between Lake George and Glens Falls NY on US 9. It's right before or right after the Pirates Cove go-kart/minigolf/arcade tourist trap. If you have never been to a drive-in, I recommend it. As I'm writing this, i am getting all nostalgic for sitting in the back of my parents' ghetto 77 LTD II and 79 Thunderbird watching movies and geting dosed on Penguin soda (remember that?)... :o)

In Manitoba Canada, The last Drive-In owned by Cineplex Odeon is on death row. They threatened to pull the plug in 2003. Sparking overnight debate, the citizens of Winnipeg rallied to keep it open for at least 1 more season.. The attendance this past season was simply not enough. Next year Odeon will most likely pull the plug for good. Last I heard there was an unconfirmed possibility the site may be purchased by a local entrepreneur and re-opened. From here it’s wait and see.

Yeah. Drive-ins are a lot of fun. We have one about 10 minutes away from our home that is opened in the summer. I'm hoping they will re-open this summer.

LOL... my dad was strictly 2 doors... we only had 1 four-door as a kid, and that was a 73 Maverick in 1975.
