Apparently it's a balanced polymer OF-111. Anybody know what this is?

It's amazing how each photographer has a different perspective on a location. Right away I noticed you used flash more than I, as mine is rather innefective, so I didn't even notice details such as this.

[Chemical engineer] This stuff is a water-based boiler treatment. The OF-111 designation is a result of the fact that often these forumlations were custom mixed to specifications of the plant they would be used in. Just as an FYI Betz Laboratories became Betz-Dearborn, and then in 2002 became GE Betz, which is now just GE Water Technologies.

"GE -- we bring good things to life."

So... is this stuff dangerous? Like, will I grow a third arm from getting close enough to take the pic? :-)

It's hazard diamond is Flam.: 1, Health: 1, React.: 0, Special: None. So, as a short answer, just don't play with it. Taking this photo most likely did not harm you. :o)

But, on the other hand, this stuff /does/ taste like 'happy', so it's hard for me to really tell people not to play with it. Maybe I just want it all to myself. Mwahahahaha.

[Disclaimer: the contents of this drum do not taste like happy. Do not taste the contents of this drum, or the contents of anything in a drum resembling this drum, ever. Furthermore, don't put things from abandoned buildings in your mouth, please. Except mushrooms.]

  Mmmm... happy...

How high do the numbers in a "hazard diamond" go? Is it a scale to 5, or something similar?

The NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) hazard diamond.
1. Blue is health.
2. Red is flammability.
3. Yellow is instability.
4 . White is special (ex. radioactive).

The scale is between 1 and 4. One tends to be mild, while four is very scary stuff.

  You missed one

5. Purple is bukkake (Danger of porn)

:-D
