Churns..They use these to soak the skins in different degrees of tanning solutions..oak,chestnut,hemlock for a "natural"slow process or chromium or alum salts for the fast process.They also use those churns to soak with lime,it helps the skins to loose their hairs and imperfections more easily...I invite you to visit my db: Canada,Quebec<St-Roch-des-Aulnaies..
