I was wondering... Can casting sand be reused? or once you used it, it's good for the garbage?

The burned sand, about 1/4 of inch around the piece is no more good but all the other sand can be reused

Yes, casting sand can be reused. Only a thin layer of the sand actually comes in contact with the molten metal. The vast majority of the sand should be compleatly uneffected. There may be an upper limit to how long the same sand can be reused based on either contamination by the metal being cast, or breakdown of any chemical additives.

Note: I'm not a casting expert by any means, although I got to play around a bit with it in a manufacturing processes class back at school.
