I think you could access a small steam tunnel network from these pits. Hell I had fun there, been twice in these tunnels, very extensive. Lotsa asbestos. I also spilled some corosive liquid on my hand, but it only got hot, my skin didn't actually peel.

Looks like you need a full biohazard suit to explore this place.

I remember the clean up that was done prior to the demolition at the Fittings plant in Oshawa in '90. The workers were in there with moon suits. And now, the property (last time I drove by) is a huge empty contaminated field that no one can build on.

yeah, but THIS place is in the middle of a city... Unbelievable. There was a bus stop like right near this. It was really surreal.

Same for that plant too guys. There is a residential neighbourhood to the North, South and East borders to the property and the West border of the property is close to Downtown Oshawa. When the second fire hit (1990), the Fire Department commented that if the fire had spread for another 10 minutes, these areas would have to be evacuated as well. Apparently, the Fire fighters found a large number of barrels full of old transformer oil in another section next to the fire area. After the fire, residents had people on their roofs cleaning off the soot and ash from the fire.

The company that owned the property at the time of the fire bought the property with the intention of building a couple of subdivisions on the site. The property turned out to be too contaminated to build on.
