that is a slick picture... is that the train tower in the old port over there? the tower in the DB called "marine tower"

the "marine tower" on the conveyor pier is quite recent actually, i have the date somewhere when jetee number 1 was built. at the time this pic was taken the basin between the king edward pier and the alexandra pier (iberville terminal) had nothing in it

Most of us would probably throw up if we were suddenly teleported back there. The city stank in a thousand ways and the air quailty was probably terrible. It still isn't wonderful but so much of it today is relatively invisible.

When I grew up in Goose Village, the stockyards were right across Bridge Street. You could see the cow manure piled up high on flatcars. The odour was strong, particularly in summer, but one grew used to it to the point that you really didn't notice it--you just accepted it. This didn't harm me, growing up, nor did the contamination in the soil--we played in the dirt, and got filthy just like kids everywhere.

I can remember walking along Bridge street to go to Expo and the smell from the Abbatoirs was terrible.
