This is the machinery that was water powered and stoked the fires of the smelting furnace.

This was powered by a massive waterwheel connected to a dam in the river which pumped the pistons, that in turn spun the stoker in the three round tanks, which apparently forced air into the furnace. The ore ws dumped in through the top by way of a bridge that once crossed over the road. The iron was removed from one side, while the lighter slag was removed from the other.

during the fall, early winter and mid-spring, you can make out a series of 'steps' across the road from the blast furnace.
