anti tank mines to be exact. Designed to prevent cars and tanks from coming down the road.

I'd be suprised at that, but I have been out for a while. That kinda two-disk stack style was very commom in Pact mines. American AT mines were pertty uniform in having a smooth side profile. Hell, when I got out, the newest plastic AT mines were square for some reason. Figured they would have taken over the inventory by now.

Yeah seriously. These casual snapshots from people who are actually there are much more informative than some professionally written piece by a guy with a PhD in journalism and a $20,000 camera.
Keep em coming.

How difficult are these to move off the road? I've heard they're not as touchy as anti-personnel mines (or whatever the proper name for them is), but I'd imagine you couldn't just pick them up and throw them off to the side either.

depends. They require about 1000 pounds average to detonate. You can walk over them. However I wouldnt want to jar them.

Belive it or not most mines aren't fitted with anit-handling devices. Mines work to prevent passage through an area best when covered by fire, like most other access denial obstructions. Anti-tank mines without anti-handling devices attached are safe to remove by hand for disposal. The catch is, which one is booby trapped? Combat engineers or EOD personel spend alot of time pulling each mine that has to be removed (rather than blown in place, the favored and safer method). Most times it's wasted, no booby trap. The one time you find one though, it tends to make up for all the work you did checking this one and all the ones before it.

I see. So these are more for warning / show than actually tearing people into many pieces in a hellish explosion ??
I get it now, thanks Mark.
Hope I never come across an UE site protected in this fashion!! :-S

Yep its a do not trespass sign with a bite. Its also to prevent people from trying to drive through the area. Just incase they are crazy enough. Also there are no mines past the wall in the backgroud and thats where the enemy would be coming from. Basicly it prevents people from ramping over the barriers and driveing on.

Tupsumato, don't pick one up because the possibility of dropping it could be fatal to you and anyone within 10ft of you. (Force of impact, depending on if & how you drop it). Be wise to NOT touch live mines.
