That's an output tube. Very expensive. That sucker probably cost upwards of $3,000 and would have been replaced every 6 months or so.

Nope, not a transmitting tube although it does look like one. It is an air-variable, high-voltage capacitor made by Jennings corporation, a well known manufacturer of these types of components. There are only two conductors - the top hat and the base, which is not enough for it to be an output tube.
