At first I thought these might be pieces of airplanes. But the wood was solid and heavy.

  That was my thought too... they look like "bucks" that you'd use to shape sheet aluminum into aircraft skins, etc.

  I've never heard ofa "buck". But after handling these things I think you might be right about that.

  Most of the buildings in that area were pratt and whitney testing facilities. Most likely those are models used in aircraft engine design.
