That is for ventalation, right? Do you know why it has some sort of motor and drivechain.

I assume "fan room" means it's for ventilation. But we're talking about a fairly large complex that is intended to hold thousands of people at one time, so I doubt this would be enough to ensure they all don't suffocate.

Usually ventilation fans have got a stand alone electric motor that has a rubber drive belt which runs to the 'gerbil cage' fan itself. Presumably this is for ease of service and to keep costs down.
