The "thing" on the top is a SCVWD telemetry float unit. The dirt patch to the right is actually a mud/silt "island" that has surfaced as the water level dropped. The "tube" thing is unknown...possible artifacts from the resort town of Canon that once thrived in the area, or it was left behind by the dam construction in 1935. This phot was taken on Dec 6. On Dec 12th, the "tube" thing was gone (despite the water level being 12 inches lower than on Dec 6). Wonder what it could have been.

Those things are supposed to clean up the algae and other foreign stuff in the water, in order that the fish and other wildlife can grow in there. -- At least that's what I read anyhow...
