Oh, and there's a wreck of a Victory ship, S/S Park Victory, just off the shore in the background. It's a popular diving site, one of the largest divable shipwrecks in Finland. One of our jobs was to keep an eye on it in case of unauthorized diving. The seas around the island are littered with wrecks.

Question: how did you shoot the "main" picture for this location? The stars show a long exposure however the land doesn't look like a "night" shot at all? Filters?

9-12 min exposure.

but during day (with a filter or extremely low-sensitivity film or pinhole camera) or during night?

If I recall correctly, I took those pictures while being in the watch between midnight and 3 am.

ok, cool. They look so daylight-y. May be the total absence of innatural light.

This shelter looks like a motar pit.

Too small for a mortar.

Yeah, that's true. So it would have just been a hole to hide in for one soldier?

Probably. There might've been a cover.
