Still cant tell what it was, never saw anything like it. Obviously used to offload/load something. Marfa doesnt strike me as the grain production center of the world so maybe they exported sand, or gold??? Nice find I drove around Marfa for two days and never spotted this!

Beats me too. The electric motor looked kinda puny for a bulk loading/unloading operation. And the 2 voids visible in the main pic appear to give trackside access to the underside of the platform, leading me to reject the scale theory. Is the chamber beneath the platform big enough to accommodate a box car's worth of likestock?

It didnt' appear to be that big. I've spent a lot of time around cows, and I'm guessing more like 4 or 5 full size steers at best.

Oh yeah, the two voids you can see in the front are actually only rectangular slots in the concrete facing, about 4 feet wide and three feet deep. Neither provides access to the underside.

So much for my theory, then. I was thinking along the lines of an "exfestation" station for livestock in transit. Got any more pics you can post?
