i loved how till recently place bonaventure was a time warp

Yeah, this was a pretty cool mall in it's day, with plenty of benches to hang out on, and the extra-wide corridors named after famous streets. There was even a bar with off-track betting for Blue Bonnets. But the location, at the periphery of the underground city, eventually did it in.

Still, ya gotta love that brutal concrete architecture. This was one bold building, right up there with PVM in my books.

the OTB only showed up in the 90s though with the rest of the hippoclub network non?

No. I remember that bar from the mid-late 70s. It was some kind of one-off special arrangement.

ok, cus the hippo club caused a lot of discussion because of its proximity to chinatown

I also remember my dad going in and betting when I was a kid. I think the best of Place Bonaventure was when it was kinda abandoned and left to die in the 90`s. I couldn`t stop from visiting it over and over. It was like walking through a time warp.

i used to do that too maze, the centre cavalier mall in lasalle was the same, there was the remains of a burnt orange radio shack and a closed shoe store shaped like a camera!

Bonaventure used to be ok for sure. In the 90's I set up tons of trade show display booths there. I always prefered it to the Palais. I don't like the way the place has become one big entrance to the convention centre, but it did die as a mall. And the route to the metro is a labyrinth now. Cool hotel upstairs.

the old tunnel from central station forced you to walk through the mall, the direct escalator from the station to the mall under 1000 de la gauchetiere killed place bonaventure

I work at Bonaventure Place since '95. Everything changed. The remaining stores closed, the brasserie closed. We searched for the old cinema during the renovations, stairs were still there but disappeared by now. I believed they enlarged underground parking with it. There's now a tunnel between ICAO and Bonav.
