This tower sits atop the condemned Hankook Ilbo newspaper office building. As you can see, the Hankook Ilbo also publishes the English language daily "The Korea Times" and a golf digest, among others.

I'm pretty sure - after seeing the map you included with the Somerset Palace entry - that the UPI bureau was in this building, which means I visited it almost twenty years ago during the '88 Olympics. Thanks for refreshing memories of that trip!

This thing was right next to Gyungbok Palace and Gwanghwamoon. I'm not sure what UPI is but if it's a media thing chances are it would've been in there.

UPI = United Press International, Washington DC based press wire service, now almost completely defunct. I remember it being close to the Palace, "Blue House," so this was probably it.

Sounds about right. The demolition of this building was one of the most amateur, inccompetent demolitions I've heard of in this country, with numerous accidental fires.
