With all the electrical appliances we have now, computers, fans, copiers etc, these old buildings were never designed to provide that much power-they had to add new circuits as there were never any spares in the old fuse panels. I used to make a fortune selling them extension cords and power bars! Plus the old wiring system was knob and tube and did not carry a ground-wouldn't do to electrocute a resident!
