Interesting place, much more remains than I thought there would be. I was just talking to Barn550 about this place recently. I believe that atleast some of the structures were related to the railroad that runs through there.

One of the rock structures had a narrow-gauge track running through it, so you may very well be right about the rail running through it. The place is county-owned, so you're free to roam around as much as you want without getting in trouble.
