Layton bros was a firm of piano dealers, based on Peel street in Montreal that flourished in the late 1880's.(It has survived as an audio equipment business later on)
It was founded by Philipe E.Layton,a blind organist, composer (he dedicated his 1898 "Dominion March" to Lord Strathcona)and was also a fine piano tuner..He founded the Association of the Blind in 1908 (incorporated in 1910)
He died in 1939

Jack Layton, what a cool guy he seems to be!

yes, so how come nobody votes for him?
Posted by maZe 4/25/2006 9:50 PM | remove
Actually lots of people voted for him. More people voted for him then EVER in the NDP history at federal level (with the exception of one time, for Ed Broadbent but it wasn't a lot more than what Jack got last time).
Each party gets 1,75$ per vote they get. Needless to say the NDP hasn't been that rich before. :)
If they would get as much coverage as the CPC and the LPC gets during a campaign, they'd surprised lots of people. Unfortunately, medias don't do a good job at covering the NDP because editors believe they don't stand a chance. Yet, they don't stand a chance as long as they don't get the same media coverage. it's a vicious circle and Jack is doing pretty good to brake it. He's a great guy.

Si j'étais fédéraliste, je voterais NPD mais puisque c'est pas le cas... ;-)

well, now is his time to make it or break it. I hear Bob Rae will run for the LIberals-- which would probably put them back in power especially if Harper keeps shooting himself in the foot.

Sorry, couldn t resist!

Rae is running for the liberal leadership and he's got a good chance at winning it.
