definition of irony: whining about the closure of the park with graffiti, a process used to destroy places ;)

This was a great park and it was a shame to close it so that a handful of wealthy people could build houses there.

It wasn't closed so that people could build homes. It was closed because it wasn't making money, and it had a pair of breeding killer whales. HBJ owned Sea World and wanted those whales for their park. So, they bought Marineland, promised to keep it open, spirited the whales out of there in the middle of the night .. and then closed the park for good. But the property has sat empty for about 20 years .. it's only being developed now.

ElainNJ has the true scoop. However, the park only made money during the summer months and was traditionally sold to new owners every fall. However, it was always shielded from Sea World's owners, HBJ because they were arrogant liars and knew they would close it. HBJ got around that by finding the Chinese owners in 1986 who were using the facility to store stuff they got out of the country before the communists grabbed it. $10 mil for the property and all inhabitants. Orky was worth $10 mil alone but it did keep HBJ from going to the wild to get a new male whale.
