The main entrance to the Nannie Baird mine, sealed by the BLM after a local high school kid fell to his death in 2001. The spaces between the bars are large enough to allow the bats which live inside easy exit for their nightly hunting.

I knew as I was looking through these photos I might come across this one. I went to high school with the student who fell down this mine shaft. We were exactly the same age. He would have been 24 right now. It's 300 feet to the bottom and he hit a ledge at 100 feet. I feel the need to put that because wandering around in abandoned mine shaft areas can be potentially dangerous. Also, this happened in 2000, not 2001.

I understand your concern for fooling around in mines. I also understand that your late friend wasn't just walking around. It was a tragedy, but also avoildable.
