The entrances I have seen have always been rectangular with heavy metal hatch. Maybe Wi Nike sites were different?

could be an escape hatch, from inside you'd pull open a door and dirt/sand would spill down and that's how you'd climb out. very primitive, but very effective

I was stationed at LA-29 - I don't remember what look like a man hole - it's not an air vent - we did have a sewer system - I would like to know where it was located. we didn't have any opening to the section at ground level- all the openings except the elevator doors had raised openings - to prevent water from entering the storage area during heavy rains the elevator doors would seal when closed.
