What it the exact reason for building a train tunnell right there?

it s an aesthetic consideration as much as anything. Probably in the spirit of the times they thought " and all held up by a railway tunnel, cool!"

i think the fact 3 collumns for the highway would have landed square in the path of trains, remember at one time 4 tracks went through the tunnel

its the same reason you have that 90 degree turn on the 13 south, not to displace the railways

logistical considerations as well of course.

The railroad changed the world in ways we will never see again/

agreed, the railroads at thier time of construction dominated like highways today, its interesting to look at aerial photos and see the shapes of buildings that were built to accomodate the railways, look at the throat of the old bonaventure station yard (lionel groulx metro) all the buildings funnel towards the turcot yard

For sure--- and all the viaducts and overpasses around the city prioritized train traffic. We still see trains getting the right of way. Of course they would never get anywhere if they had to wait for cars LOL

How the hell can they just dismantle all that history? Turcot ( and Point shops and...) is like a metaphor for the whole country I suppose , just moving forward blindly, not knowing where yer going and barely knowing where ya've been!

well we have a short sighted approach to history in quebec, revisionist too
