I wonder if realtives of the people who have files left in old hospitals and other such places could sue if the documants were located and confirmed to have been left?

most likely but then the person that found them could be sued for trespassing. So its better to just leave it alone.

The only tresspassing laws are under the assault laws. You can be charged with assault by tresspassing, but only if you refuse to leave after being asked to do so, but the property owner or someone with the legal authority to ask you to leave.

That is so messed up - I feel like there is something really wrong about those people left there, especially in this day and age - people get up in arms about this sort of thing
