Description
A closer look at the abutment.

During construction of the Seaway and power dam, the concrete wall in the middle of this structure wasn't there. Before the river was restrained behind the dike, the small ships sailed through this thing and up the rest of the old canal.

Two tunnels were also built under the old canal, to get men and equipment to the power dam worksite, but I never did find any evidence of them.

That would be awesome to find the tunnels, espically a way in. I love old abandonded tunnels, NYC would be a treasure trove.
