Betcha, from the gash in the top edge of the oven, that the sucker was left on self-clean, and then they left the home only to find it was "Well-done" when they returned. This can happen to a self-cleaning oven when a chemical is first used to clean it, and the chemical is not fully clear of the oven, before the self-cleaning switch is flipped!
