That's actually a pretty good question. Did the post office people just stop by with a truckload every week, toss it on the pile and then go on their merry way?
I suppose it could be that maybe someone (next of kin or something) was consolidating the stuff they found in the house and merely threw it all in a pile, but that still doesn't explain why there's so much.

I've wondered this myself - I think it's more than just putting things in piles - every place that we could see/walk in was like this. I suppose someone could check with the post office and see whats up.

I suppose... I'd be careful about that, though, since tampering with the mail is a federal offense. Maybe we could send them a letter. :-p
